WKO-installation Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam

Mission

Project management of a full upgrade of the HVAC installation and replacement of all windows with monumental Glass. The HVAC upgrading consist of:

  • Installation of a new WKO installation, mono well with heatpump principle
  • Installation of a complete new 4 pipe Fancoil system in the rooms and corridors
  • Upgrade of the Air-handling units with heat recovery (wheel) systems
  • New sustainable waterboilers
  • Complete new fire safety installation
  • Installation new monumental double pane glass
  • Installation sustainable insulation roofs

During this period the hotel remained open for guest and maintained its 5 Star service for its guests and celebrities. Due to the difficult logistical location in the heart of Amsterdam, the upgrading was a big challenge to all participating parties, closing streets for for logistics, crane activities and drilling the 130 meter deep well for the WKO. The renovation has been done in close coordination with the municipality and Province because of the high historic value and constrains of the building.

Result of the investment done

Already shortly after the renovation, the energy consumption was much lower starting the return on this investment. In addition, the hotel received the first ‘Green Key Gold’ certification for a 5* hotel in a monumental building in the Netherlands. Besides the results of the energy performance the new installed Fancoil Units ensures a much higher comfort experience for the guests in the rooms, having a perfect balanced climate without the noise disturbance guest experience in many hotels. On top of the silent installation, the double layered special monumental glass contributes to this experience blocking the sound disturbance from the streets.
